There's a good chance that any one of the fantastic gardens you see there between Blairgowrie and Portsea probably been designed, constructed or inspired by Richard. Part of his creativity in landscape design includes garden privacy screens.

What kind of privacy screens are there

Privacy screens do exactly that – give you privacy while you enjoy your garden. But there's no reason why they can't be a design feature. Think of them as garden art. They can be timber, slats, metal, tile or wrought iron. Rather than a solid wall, privacy screens could be constructed of a number of smaller screens positioned attractively among plants and bushes to give depth and visual interest in your garden. Screens can be used for other reasons than privacy. Shade control foliage training and garden art are some of the others.

What kind of material you use in the screen will depend entirely on your budget.

Timber screens: Timber will probably be the most reasonable option. A number of species of timber make excellent screens. Cypress is a softwood that is resistant to white ants, termites and decay. It's light yellow tone and scattered dark brown knots make it a great choice for feature screens. Merbau is also versatile, durable, termite and decay resistant. It's naturally oily so it seasons well. It suits any style of architecture, which is why it's so popular on the Mornington Peninsula. Richard Robertson are timber screening specialists on the Mornington Peninsula. Timber is great for slat screens because of its natural beauty, but it can also be painted if that would suit your garden and the position of the screens better. Wooden screens can be carved to add to their decorative appeal.

Metal screens: Laser cutting achieves the same decorative appeal in metal privacy screens. In terms of garden art metal screens are a blank canvas whether they have laser cut design carved into them or whether they are wrought iron sculptures. Metal screens also make great light boxes.

Tile and mosaic screens: Tiles and mosaics are highly creative options for garden art especially when it comes to garden privacy screens. They come in a wide range of colours, patterns, sizes and textures. They also weather well and look great for a very long time.
